Daily Choices are
Daily Medicine

Personalised nutrition and behavior change support that works with real life — not against it

For most people living with an NCD, medications alone are not enough. How they eat, how they move, how they manage stress, and how they sleep shapes their health outcomes more profoundly than any prescription. The Kenya NCD Resource and Support Center's Lifestyle, Nutrition and Behavior Change Support program delivers the practical, personalised, and culturally grounded guidance that makes sustainable daily change possible — not just advised.

What This Program Does

Change That Fits Your Life

Lifestyle, Nutrition and Behavior Change Support bridges the gap between clinical advice and daily reality. Most NCD patients know they should eat better, move more, and manage stress — but knowing is not the same as having the tools, support, and confidence to do it consistently within the constraints of real life: limited income, demanding work, family obligations, and deeply rooted food traditions.

Our nutritionists, counselors, and physiotherapists work together to develop personalised lifestyle plans that are realistic, affordable, and culturally appropriate. Dietary guidance is built around locally available foods and realistic family budgets. Physical activity recommendations account for a patient's current condition, mobility, and daily schedule. Behavior change support draws on proven techniques — motivational interviewing, goal setting, and peer accountability — that build intrinsic motivation rather than relying on willpower alone.

This program is fully integrated into the consultation pathway — every patient with an NCD who attends the Center receives a lifestyle assessment and personalised plan as a standard component of their care, not as an optional add-on.

Why It Matters

Medication Manages.
Lifestyle Heals.

Medications for hypertension, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease are essential — but they work best when supported by the lifestyle changes that address the root causes of the conditions themselves. Research consistently shows that combined medication and lifestyle interventions produce significantly better outcomes than medication alone.

For type 2 diabetes specifically, intensive lifestyle interventions can reduce the need for medication, prevent progression to insulin dependence, and in some cases achieve remission. For hypertension, dietary changes combined with weight management can reduce systolic blood pressure by as much as medication in mild-to-moderate cases.

Yet lifestyle counseling is routinely deprioritised in overstretched health facilities. The Kenya NCD Resource and Support Center makes it a non-negotiable component of every NCD patient's care — because it is not a luxury. It is core medicine.
